We celebrated Pioneer Day with a Jorgensen family party at Glendale reservoir in Idaho. This is one of my favorite places to go boating. I have not been there for about seven years so I was excited for the opportunity to go.
Kolby is trying to water ski. His face says it all. Uncle Jordan was kind enough to lend some support.
Kolby managed to get up for about four seconds.
After several valiant attempts on the water skis he tried the ski trainer. After a few minutes riding behind the boat Kolby managed to relax enough to crack a smile. This picture was taken before he gained his confidence and was still terrified. It was great that he was able to experience what it is like to ride behind the boat. Hopefully, it will help him next time he attempts water skis.
Tyler got a couple of good skis in.
Landry had his first ride in Grandpa's boat. I asked him what he thought about riding in Grandpa's boat and this is what he told me. I think that he was impressed.
Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
The kids loved riding in the canoes. Chris and Trudy's boat crew.
Our nephew Tanner had to be in a boat at all times! He did not want to leave Grandpa's boat.
Eventually, Tanner was agreeable to being on any boat - not just Grandpa's boat. He enjoyed the paddle boat with his Mom (and many others who took him out to paddle around).
Tanner had fun in the canoe with his Dad.
Addie loves to be the flag girl.
Grandma Lynne spent a lot of time paddling the grand kids around the cove. Landry was excited to ride in the paddle boat.
It was a kid's paradise! Lot's of fun in the sun!
Kolby swimming with his cousin Jared. Doesn't that look relaxing...
Our niece Brinlee was a little fish - swimming everywhere!
This is what summer is all about.

We visited the Pentagon - kind of. I made Sara walk around one side of the building. Visiting this site was not at the top of her list but she was a good sport. We were the only tourists that I could see. This shot was not taken at the Pentagon because they do not allow any pictures to be taken on the property. I took this from the top of Arlington Cemetery. The Supreme Court.
The Jefferson Memorial during our Monuments by Moonlight tour.
Iwo Jima Memorial - part of the Monuments by Moonlight tour. Tyler and Sara's husband both think that the Monuments by Moonlight tour sounds romantic. Yes - you should all feel bad for Sara and I as this is very telling of our husband's romantic skills.
The graves in Arlington National Cemetery are supposed to symbolize soldiers standing at attention in a straight line.
This is part of the amphitheater at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This tomb is guarded 24 hours a day/365 days a year. The changing of the guard takes place every half hour. The soldiers are not allowed to date, be married or watch television while they are assigned to this duty. Each assignment lasts for six months.
It was a great opportunity to be able to visit this special cemetery.
This is considered the best view of Washington DC in the entire city. It is at the Lee Plantation at the top of Arlington Cemetery. The man who designed Washington DC is buried where the marker is behind Sara. It was decided that since he designed the city he should have the right to the best view of the city he worked so hard to plan.

I heard about the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and could not resist a visit. The name drew me there. Especially, after Sara had a dream about it. We made the trek to this church on the campus of the Catholic University of America.
It was very interesting. The ceilings and walls were covered with tiny mosaic tiles which created grand pictures and designs.
It was well worth the journey. We happened upon the National Postal Museum by accident. There is a national museum for just about anything you can think of in Washington DC. Mail by rail! It makes sense but I had never thought of it before. We were privileged to be able to have a tour of the US Capitol. This is on the private subway that the US Senators use to go from their office buildings to the Capitol.
The first chambers of the Supreme Court inside the Capitol.
Looking at the top of the inside of the dome of the Capitol. The Statue of Liberty can fit inside this dome and their is still about twenty feet to spare.

Our main method of transportation during my trip was the metro. We ended up spending hours and hours on the metro because we saw so many things. By the end of my trip both Sara and I were very done with this method of transportation. The National Cathedral is beautiful. Unfortunately, we got there too late to see the inside. I still enjoyed studying the outside.
There are hundreds of these peculiar little gargoyles all over the building.
We had a hard time finding the metro stop for this landmark and walked all over some beautiful (and not so beautiful) Washington DC neighborhoods.
Many former US Presidents have had there funerals here.

I have been back from Washington DC for a week and I finally have access to a computer. It was a great trip! I loved Washington DC and Virginia. This is George Washington's house in Mt. Vernon. We spent 4 1/2 hours on his plantation and still did not get to see everything. I really enjoyed the time we spent here.
Sara and I are enjoying the view from George Washington's back porch.
The plantation overlooks the Potomac River. I could not resist this photo opp with Sara and her husband Nate.
I have never been as hot as I was at the plantation. It was the hottest day they had so far in Virginia. Luckily, there was an amazing museum I could spend a lot of time in and cool off.

We can't forget this one! You get a different view of this all over the city. It is an amazing landmark.
The Washington Memorial.
I can't get enough of all of the incredible architecture in Washington DC. All of the buildings have their own grand character and elegance. The individual designs are striking and intricate.

The Lincoln Memorial. Half the fun is getting there.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Korean War Memorial.
A side view of this profound memorial.
We loved the World War II Veterans Memorial.
