July 29, 2008

I heard about the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and could not resist a visit. The name drew me there. Especially, after Sara had a dream about it. We made the trek to this church on the campus of the Catholic University of America.
It was very interesting. The ceilings and walls were covered with tiny mosaic tiles which created grand pictures and designs.
It was well worth the journey. We happened upon the National Postal Museum by accident. There is a national museum for just about anything you can think of in Washington DC. Mail by rail! It makes sense but I had never thought of it before. We were privileged to be able to have a tour of the US Capitol. This is on the private subway that the US Senators use to go from their office buildings to the Capitol.
The first chambers of the Supreme Court inside the Capitol.
Looking at the top of the inside of the dome of the Capitol. The Statue of Liberty can fit inside this dome and their is still about twenty feet to spare.
